BIOGRAPHY

Conductor, harpsichordist and pianist, Paolo Spadaro Munitto has been Principal Conductor of the Jerusalem Lyric Opera Festival since the 2021-22 season and first level Maestro di sala (Musical assistant) at the Teatro alla Scala since 2002.


As conductor, he regularly collaborates with theatres, festivals and orchestras at an international level including  Teatro alla Scala di Milano, Orchestra of Fondazione Arena di Verona, Dresdner Philharmonie, Orchestra of the National Opera House in Zagreb, Cameristi della Scala, Jerusalem Symphony orchestra, Zagreb Philarmonic orchestra, Orchestra of the Accademia della Scala, Milano classica orchestra, Opera giocosa in Savona, Israel Sinfonietta Beer-Sheva, Strumentisti della Scala, Festival dei due mondi in Spoleto, Tiroler Festspiele Erl in Austria, Alden Biesen Zomeropera in Belgio... 


Active also as a harpsichord conductor, since its creation has been part of the Baroque ensemble of the Teatro alla Scala on period instruments.


Not least, he performs as pianist with great singers and instrumentalists in important venues such as Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Wigmore Hall in London, Mupa in Budapest, Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, Istanbul Music Festival...


Appreciated teacher, since 2005 he has been teaching the Specialization course for opera singers and the Specialization course for musical assistant at the Accademia del Teatro alla Scala.

He studied solo piano with Emilio Bonino, composition with Paolo Arcà and Gianni Possio, orchestral conducting with Donato Renzetti and Gustav Kuhn, jazz music with Franco D’Andrea, chamber music as both pianist and harpsichordist with Daniela Uccello and Maria Cecilia Farina.


Artistically raised in Scala side-by-side with the greatest conductors in the world (Riccardo Chailly, Daniel Barenboim, Riccardo Muti, Lorin Maazel, Myung Wung Chung, Daniele Gatti, Daniel Oren, Gustavo Dudamel, Georges Pretre...), he is at home in both the operatic and symphonic repertoire. He regularly collaborates with theatres, festivals and orchestras at an international level including Teatro alla Scala di Milano, Fondazione Arena di Verona orchestra, Dresdner Philharmonie, Orchestra of the National Opera House in Zagreb, Cameristi della Scala, Jerusalem Symphony orchestra, lZagreb Philarmonic orchestra, Orchestra of the Accademia della Scala, Milano classica orchestra, Opera giocosa in Savona, Israel Sinfonietta Beer-Sheva, Strumentisti della Scala, Festival dei due mondi in Spoleto, Tiroler Festspiele Erl in Austria, Alden Biesen Zomeropera in Belgio...  His performance were broadcast live on Austrian (ORF) and live primetime on Croatian (HRT) national television.


Scholar of Baroque music, he is also active as a harpsichordist and harpsichord conductor. He has collaborated with specialists such as Ottavio Dantone, Diego Fasolis, Andrea Marcon, Rinaldo Alessandrini. Since its creation, he has been part of the Baroque ensemble of the Teatro alla Scala on period instruments, with a vocal and instrumental repertoire, such as Vivaldi's cantatas or Bach's 5 Brandenburg Concerto.


Not least, he performs as pianist with great singers and instrumentalists (Mariella Devia, Luciana D'Intino, Nino Machaidze, Massimo Cavalletti, Sonia Prina ...) in Italy, England, France, Austria, Spain, Germany, Russia, Israel, Greece, Turkey, Norway, Hong Kong, Switzerland, in important venues such as Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Wigmore Hall in London, Mupa in Budapest, Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, Istanbul Music Festival...


Finally, he is also an appreciated teacher: since 2005 he has been teaching the Specialization course for opera singers and the Specialization course for musical assistant at the Accademia del Teatro alla Scala, as well as being regularly invited to hold masterclasses on opera Italian and to take part in the juries of important international competitions.
